Sunday 14th September saw 45 teams converge on Broadstone to compete in the charity golf day in aid of Victoria School and Sports College which caters for severely disabled children in the Poole/Bournemouth conurbation and the County of Dorset.
The first sign of the event had been the scaffolding tower erected adjacent to the Ladies tee on the 1st. This evoked several comments from the membership fearful that the committee were up to something suspicious or some devious plan was about to be carried out by Mike Dixon whose banner stood proudly at the top. Saturday afternoon saw the 30 Community sponsors banners dressed on the structure and members fears were soothed.
Sunday was a glorious late summer’s day with sunshine clearing a misty morn and the Lexus hybrid at the 8th tee posed proudly overlooking the 7th green. All teams enjoyed their round and had a great day. An experience raffle raised some £1275; a silent auction for a 4 ball on the West Course at Wentworth went to Mike Bolger for £500. In all, the day raised around £10,000 for Victoria School.
