The Hardy A season got underway on Sunday 12th April with a first round K/O Cup match against Rushmore at home. The Team (Chris Dennis, Dan Irish, Hilton Alcock, Lee Barnett, Glen Knight, Alan Everard, Sam Bradshaw and James Hector) looked very smart in their new black & graphite team shirts sponsored by Dorset Drylining and got the season off to a winning start with a 6 - 2 victory. The spearhead of the team, Chris Dennis, found himself up against 17 year old Ben Stow who plays off a plus 2 handicap and represents England. Ben recently won the Wiltshire Boys Championship at Bowood by 10 clear shots with a two round total below par. I observed Ben on several of the holes on Sunday and he will definitely be a star of the future so remember the name. Chris's match with Ben went right down to the last hole with Ben finally securing the winning point. All credit to Chris who played some great golf in his quest to snatch a point from the rising star. Dan Irish, Hilton Alcock, Lee Barnett, Glen Knight, Sam Bradshaw and James Hector all secured wins to give Broadstone the 6-2 victory. I took the role of non-playing Captain and observed some excellent golf from all players with every match played in the usual competitive but friendly spirit of the Hardy A. We now await details of who our opponents are in the next round but in the meantime focus now turns to the League with our first matches on the May 9th and May 16th against tough opposition in the way of MeyrickPark at home and Canford Magna away respectively.
