Broadstone beat Brokenhurst in the Millennium League |
Sunday 19th April saw the opening match of the 2009 Millennium League Season. The match was played at home and our opponents were Brokenhurst Manor. The team consisted of Phil Purvis (his first match as Captain of the side), Pete Asquith, Keith Coles, Martin Arnold, Stephen Morris, Neil Taylor, Wesley Hacker, and Graham Wilkin. Half of the side were making their debuts for the club and all put in excellent performances and there were wins for Stephen, Neil and Graham. Despite being 3 down after 10 Phil managed to square his match while Brokenhurst’s Captain came up against, what he described as an in form and star of the future, Martin, who won his match with a convincing 6&5. Unfortunately Pete Asquith’s reputation preceded him as his opponent went Absent Without Leave which meant that the overall result was 5½-2½ to Broadstone.
