| Mixed Fortunes for the Hardy A Team |
|
On May 16 the Hardy A Team arrived at a very windy Canford Magna for a league match. Whilst the gusting wind made play very tricky the Parkland course was in excellent condition. The spearhead of the Team, Chris Dennis, delivered an excellent away win in his match with both Mark Baber and James Hector playing very well to secure halves against their opponents. Canford Magna ran out 6-2 winners in the match leaving Broadstone needing to win all of their remaining 4 league matches to be in with a chance of lifting the title for a third successive season.
On May 23 the Hardy A Team hosted Knighton Heath in the second round of the Hardy A K/O Cup. On a weather perfect day for golf the Knighton team arrived and were fielding their Beckford Bowl players. It was a nail biting match which had to produce a winning team on the day and therefore a 'sudden death' play off in the event of a tie. With Broadstone having lost the first three matches in this tie all was favouring Knighton until Glen Knight, Lee Barnett, Bernie Emberley and Tim Aston all delivered well deserved wins in their matches leaving the tie level at 4 points each. Prior to the match each Captain selects a player from the Team to represent them in 'sudden death' in the event of a drawn match. Out steps Chris Dennis and promptly birdies the first to win the 'sudden death' play-off and send Broadstone through to the quarter finals where our opponents will be either Ferndown or Meyrick Park who play this coming Saturday.
