Hardy A Team take lead in first leg of K/O Cup Final and stay top of League
On a fine day for golf we welcomed the Yeovil Hardy A Team to Broadstone for the first leg on the K/O Cup Final. The match sheet was completed and the sides looked very even with only one shot being given in 3 of the 8 matches. Chris Dennis led the team off in a match where I was looking for a 6 - 2 lead to take to Yeovil for the second leg on October 11th. Once the last match had tee'd off I took the buggy out to the 7th to catch up on progress. It was looking good at this stage with Broadstone leading in 5 of the 8 matches. On the 13th we were still in the same position being up in 5 and down in 3.  I then made my way down to the 15th green where I found Andy Day, Ashley Harvey and Ginger Alcock all having defeated their opponents with convincing wins. Chris Dennis was still making his way down 17 all square and Brent Graham had closed out his match on the 16th 3 & 2. Making my way to the 18th green Chris informed me that his young opponent, whom Chris had nicknamed Zorro for his fairway to green regulation golf, had pipped him on the last. So at this stage we were 4 - 1 up. Next up was Bernie 'canny' Emberley. Bernie was 1 down coming down the 18th but a magnificent chip saw Bernie take the hole and force them down the 19th as every match had to reach a conclusion. In the meantime our rear gunner Tim 'Rambo' Aston had won his match on the 17th so at this point we were 5 - 2 up with Bernie still out on the 19th. Bernie's hole went something like this, ditch, drop, heather, fairway, green and holed the putt for a 6 to beat his opponent by one and giving Broadstone the 6 - 2 lead we were looking for to take to Yeovil for the 2nd leg. Even with a 6 - 2 lead I know the Yeovil team feel they can turn us over on their track and I'm sure we will have to grind it out to get the three points we need to lift the Trophy. I would also like to pass on my sincere thanks to our Captain, Herman, who spent the afternoon supporting the Hardy A Team out on the course and I know the boys really appreciated this.

Just a quick update on the league. Although we have finished our matches there were still two games left to play amongst the other teams in our league. Meyrick Park beat Queens Park on Saturday which now means that the Broadstone Hardy A Team can finish no lower than Runners Up in 2009. A terrific achievement and testament to the quality of both the team spirit and golf that has been played this year. But, in the last match of the season Canford Magna host Parkstone on Sunday 13th with Parkstone needing to win to avoid relegation and Canford needing to win to win the league. If Parkstone do pull off a victory at Canford then Broadstone will win the top division of the Hardy A for the third consecutive year. We eagerly await the result!

Finally a report on the latest course fashion being adorned by our 'Ginger Alcock'. He decided this week to be most colourful, although not best coordinated  and try to wear every colour of the rainbow, Orange (hair), Black, White, Grey, Blue, Silver and Red. The Red coming from his toenails which I can assure you were painted!
