Sections Round Up -

As well as the results outlined above, the sections within the club have also seen their season get off to a busy start!

Juniors

Louise Burke, Chloe Haesler and Sienna Birch all competed in the Girls U16 R&A Amateur Championships at Fulford Golf Club which is a huge event to get in to at such a young age with the best you female golfers from across Europe competing for the title- well done girls! The results can be seen by clicking here. In Dorset Golf we had a great set of results in the Dorset Schools Qualifying round held at Bulbury Woods. Most of our Juniors tee'd up in qualifying competing for one of the 6 spots available to reach the final, being played here at Broadstone later this month. We are pleased to say that 5 of our members claimed their spots so we will have some home players to cheer on in the main competition! Well done to Harvey Randall, Alex Johnston, Sienna Birch, Louise Burke and Lauren Purchase for qualifying and all of our other Junior Members for competing! Our match play season got off to a competitive start against Weymouth GC in the Longmore Shield, a scratch match we have had great success in in recent years. In a tight match with 2 of the 5 matches going to extra holes we unfortunately came off 2nd best losing 3-2 to a strong Weymouth team.

Alex Johnson won the Henderson Trophy, the prestigious Winter Series Tournament held by the Dorset Golf Union each Winter. A tough event to win, with there being 4 rounds of strokeplay to navigate before the top 8 players are placed in to a 2 day matchplay knock out. Alex came out on top over fellow Broadstone Member, Rhys Harrison with Tom Kollberg narrowly losing in the Semi Finals. Congratulations to Alex on a brilliant victory after a lot of hard work over the Winter Months and well done to all of our Broadstone members for getting so far in a great competition!

During April, there was also excellent performances from Alex Johnston and Louise Burke who won their respective Dorset Schools events, well done to them both. The Junior Golf Calendar seems to get busier every year and the matches and tournaments are coming thick and fast- next up is a Dorset KO match against Yeovil!

Ladies

The Ladies Captain, Maggie Alan-Williams is far better placed than me to give the update from their section and over and above the competitions listed above, here is her update:

Our first trophy competition was played at the beginning of April which was the Peggy Taylor playing  a medal and stableford round of golf, the winner of this competition was Debbie Driver.  The Sturton Cup was also played  for at the same time which again the winner was Debbie Driver. The ladies Hezlett (single figure handicap team) had their first round of the knock-out against Meon Valley away, they didn't hold much hope as none of them had played the course before,  but showing their commitment they had a practice round, which stood them in good stead, because they won the match. Our Bronze ladies had their first match against Moors Valley away, which they successfully won. On the 18th April we held our Captain Versus Vice Captain match playing for the Flay Trophy, this was a drawn competition, there were some very close matches, and for the first time ever it was a draw. The big event in April was the County Championship competitions held at Knighton Heath From April 24th through to April 27th. The competitions we were playing for was the Johnstone Cup where three of our ladies Sue Jackson, Gay Brooks and Kathy Yeoman went through to  the quarter finals , Sue Jackson made it to the semi finals. The Silver Challenge competition where Carol Cass was the runner up in Gross and Sue Olds came 3rd.  Maggie Bray was runner up in the Net. We then come onto the County Championships, where Jo Hadley, Cathy Macfarlane-Thompson and Becky Hobbell made it to the last sixteen.

As you can see there has been a lot of good golf played by our Ladies at Broadstone, I would like to congratulate all of them for their support and commitment.

Seniors

Thank you to new Senior's Captain John Briggs for the latest match results:

Matches started with a match against Barton On Sea at home, where a good team performance saw them win 4-2. On Tuesday 16th, the Seniors took on Blackmoor at home, and played out an entertaining 3-3 draw. Two days later (I told you the matches came thick and fast!) Came Down visited and edged a close match 3.5 to 2.5, Continuing the run of home matches, Isle of Purbeck visited and a great game could not separate the sides and a 3-3 draw ensued.

***************

May has begun with just as many events so look forward to seeing a bumper round up in early June.
